Imphal, May 07 2024:
The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has strongly condemned the alleged physical assault of KT Kom (58) of Ichum Kom Keirak village on May 4 by Kuki militants.
A statement issued by Sapamcha Jadumani, president, FoH, has accused Kuki militants of constantly carrying out assaults, gun attacks and extortion on the indigenous Kom community.
On May 4 around 8 pm, well-armed suspected cadres of KNF (MC) fired shots at Ichum Kom Keirak village and abducted KT Kom.
He was later dropped off after being subjected to a violent beating, said FoH.
Condemning the incident, FoH shared that this is not the first time such an incident has happened at Ichum Kom Keirak village.
On many instances in the past, the villagers, including the Chief, have been subjected to assaults and intimidation by Kuki militants.
Frustrated with such treatment, the villagers had complained to the State Government and subsequently Manipur police personnel had provided security to the village from time to time, it claimed.
FoH also stressed on the need for the Manipur Government to take up concrete steps to protect smaller indigenous communities like the Kom from such atrocities at the hands of Kuki militants.
FoH further advised the youth of the Kom community to make arrangements to safeguard their villages.
