Imphal, February 19 2022:
Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (LUP) has strongly denounced the indifferent attitude of the Chief Election Commission (CEC) and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur in regards to its earnest appeal to reschedule the 2nd phase poll date of 12th Manipur Legislative Election to another day.
UKAL in a press release said that a special meeting will be convened on February 21 at 11 am at the Head Office of UKAL at Konung Mamang to discuss the measures to be taken up against the ignorant attitude of the CEC and CEO in regards to the earnest appeal of UKAL and other organisations to reschedule the date of 2nd phase poll which falls on March 5 (Saturday) and is the first Saturday of the month of Lamta where 'Saroi Khangba' ritual which is an important ritual of the Meitei/Meetei is performed on this day.
In view of the importance of the day and to ensure that the ritual is performed properly, UKAL has appealed to reschedule the 2nd phase poll to another day for the convenience of all however the authorities concerned have not taken up any measures to reschedule the same which is really unfortunate.
Reacting to the indifference shown by the high officials towards the tradition and culture of the State, UKAL termed such attitude as an act of disgrace towards the Manipuri society and appealed to all concerned to send two representatives each to attend the meeting to be held on February 21 .
