Imphal, April 27 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) will be conducting a public meet on '365 Days of Chin Kuki Narco-Terrorist aggression in Manipur' on May 3 and discuss the ways and means to resolve the ongoing violence which erupted on May 3, 2023 .
Announcing the decision to hold the public meet on May 3, COCOMI coordinator Somorendro Thokchom appealed to people and intellectuals to take part in the public meet to be held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shan-glen, Palace Compound.
Addressing media persons in this regard at COCOMI office, Lamphelpat, here, on Saturday, Somorendro Thokchom said that the public meet is aimed at providing a platform for individuals affected by the violence to share their experiences, engage in discussions and highlight root causes of the violence.
A booklet detailing the suffering of the people still languishing in relief camps will also be released on the day and recommendations adopted for resolving the crisis will be resent to the Government of India.
While stressing the need for having genuine patriotism among politicians and CSO leaders, Somorendro Thokchom appealed to politicians and CSOs not to play politics in the name of patriotism but rather work genuinely in the interest of the state.
He said that both the Congress party and the BJP hurl accusation against each other on the current crisis but both the national parties remain adamant from resolving the crisis genuinely and indulge in political manoeuvring.
While the BJP repeatedly accuses the Congress party of initiating Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Kuki militants, the BJP has not taken any step to withdraw the SoO, he pointed out.
According to Somorendro Thokchom, patriotism should not be used as a tool for political gain and there should be a collective understanding on how politicians in mainland India are treating people of the state.
He then called for a sincere commitment to addressing the challenges facing the state while maintaining that there is no visible sign of resolving the crisis and returning to normalcy.
