Two CRPF men killed in Kuki militants' attack

In a tragic incident, Kuki militants launched a deadly assault on a CRPF post in Naranseina, Bishnupur district in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving two others wounded.
The slain personnel have been identified as Md Nasiruddin Sarkar (55) son of Md Kabad of Bomrabil, Assam and head constable Arup-kumar Saini (30) son of Ramakanta Saini of Panchel, West Bengal.
The injured personnel have been identified as inspector Jadav Das (58) son of Bhaven Das of Gougacha, Assam and constable Md Aftab Ul Hussain (39) son of Tamij Ali of Pitanipara, Assam.
All of them are personnel of 128th battalion CRPF, B company.
Police source said that CRPF personnel have been deployed on the western side of 2nd IRB headquarters located in Naranseina shortly after the ethnic crisis began last year.
The Kuki militants attacked the CRPF post with bombs and high calibre assault rifles at around 12.45 am on Saturday.
CRPF personnel retaliated the attack and gunfight continued for around 40 minutes.
SI Md Nasiruddin and head constable Arupkumar succumbed at the spot after being hit by bomb splinters while inspector Jadav Das and constable Md Aftab were injured and rushed to RIMS hospital.
The bodies of the two slain personnel were also brought to RIMS mortuary for post mortem examination.
Upon receiving information of the attack, Bishnupur district commandos and Moirang police station teams rushed to the spot and carried out a massive search operation.
The security team recovered 145 live ammunition, 197 empty ammunition cells, 32 projectiles, one walkie-talkie set, and two Chinese hand grenades.
The two hand grenades were disposed by bomb disposal squad at a safe location.
An FIR has been registered at Moirang police station in connection with the attack.
Local sources said that joint security teams including personnel of Sikh and Gorkha Regiments also carried out search operation in nearby Langchingmanbi and Khoirentak area, during which three bunkers were dismantled and four guns including one automatic rifle confiscated.
Meira Paibi members of Naranseina area told media persons that the conflict has completed almost a year now, yet the government has not been able to quell the crisis.
They expressed suspicion of a hidden agenda behind prolonging crisis and stressed the need for a huge public movement to end the crisis.
It is unfortunate that the Central government is remaining silent even when the Kuki militants are now openly targetting central security forces, they lamented.
Moirang MLA Th Shanti also visited the spot and interacted with CRPF personnel and local people.
