Tamenglong, February 19 2022:
The National People's Party (NPP) will emerge as the single largest party after Manipur assembly election, asserted party's national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma.
Speaking at a one-day political convention held on Saturday at Natural Football Ground, Tamenglong town for NPP candidates Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong AC) and Z Kikhonbou Newmai (Tamei AC), Conrad expressed that the ensuing Manipur election will be both critical and decisive on the fate of the people of Manipur.
As such a mature political party like NPP need to helm the affairs as it understands and prioritises the needs of the people as opposed to parties that focus on posturing to conceal their failures, he said "NPP as a political party strongly believes in people-centric development where ethos of consultations and free prior informed consent are upheld and practiced in decision making, and in formulating policies about developmental projects," Conrad said and pledged to work for addressing all the grievances of the people if voted to power.
He also asserted that under NPP's slogan of 'One Voice, One North-East' every community big or small will be taken care of by the NPP-government.
Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar Singh, who also attended the meeting, said that NPP will gain immensely by fielding Kikhonbou and Janghemlung as party's candidates.
He said both are leaders who have mass following and would work efficiently for the people.
Joykumar also said BJP will not be able to secure more than 15 seats in the coming election, because of their governance in the past five years.
He took a dig at BJP for their claim on bridging the hill-valley divide, stating that BJP should not take the credit of peace between hills and valley brethren as such camaraderie is mainly due to maturity of the people and civil societies.
Speaking on the occasion, Janghemlung Panmei assured all-round development in the district if elected and pointed out that NPP's symbol - book, signifies knowledge and intelligence.
The political convention was also attended by Meghalaya deputy CM Prestone Tynsong and Tamenglong ADC member Charles Liangdiang, among others.
