Ukhrul, February 19 2022:
Naga People's Front (NPF-Central Kohima) president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu on Saturday urged the electorates of Ukhrul, Chingai and Phungyar assembly constituencies to give their valuable mandate to the party's candidates in the three seats.
He was addressing the party's campaign programme for the forthcoming Manipur Assembly elections at TNL Ground in Ukhrul town.
Dr Liezietsu, who is former Nagaland chief minister, urged the people to support and elect the candidates who stand for the interests of the tribal people and the Naga people.
"I urge you all to please elect our party candidates Khashim Vashum, Ram Muivah and Leishiyo Keishing in Chingai, Ukhrul and Phungyar constituencies," he pleaded the congregation of people from across the three constituencies.
Referring to Chingai and Phungyar ACs, he appealed to the people to re-elect the party candidates, saying: "Let them continue the works they had planned to accomplish for the people" .
In the case of Ukhrul AC, the NPF leader urged the people not to repeat the mistake by electing MLAs from the other political parties who have nothing to do with the aspirations of the Naga people.
He also called the politics of Naga politicians working for political parties other than NPF as misadventure.
"NPF is the party of the Naga people as a whole, this party belongs to the Naga people.
Each and every one of you is a member of the party and we all are equal partners in this party," he said.
Dr Liezietsu went on to question as to why Naga politicians should join other political parties when they have their own party.
On the much-speculated BJP-NPF relationship, he said that the party is with BJP in Manipur.
He however disclosed that his party has not-taken any decision regarding its relationship with BJP.
He said that apart from the two political parties associating with each other, there is no written agreement or commitment between them as yet.
The NPF leader also said that the party is against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and AFSPA.
Star campaigner of the Ukhrul Division Election Campaign Y Vikheho Swu, also said that NPF is the only party that can allow any elected members to rise up and voice out for the welfare of the Nagas in the assembly without fear.
"But this is not possible if one is elected on any other National Party ticket", he said adding that NPF s'tands for our rights and our identity, for preserving our culture and tradition, our forest; flora and fauna.
Swu who was elected as the president of NSF at TNL Ground back in 1993 further assured the gathering that "NPF is here to spread and promote peace".
NPF general secretary Achumbemo Kikon, and former speaker NLA Dr Chotisuh Sazo also spoke during the programme.
