Imphal, November 23 2022:
Amid the demand for releasing the fund provided for MGN-REGS, funds from the bank accounts of around 50 job card holders of Changamdabi gram Panchayat were found withdrawn without their knowledge.
According to Imram Shah, who is former pradhan of the GP and PRO of Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar, the job card holders of the GP have their bank accounts at Manipur State Cooperative Bank, Porompat branch.
The matter came into light when the job card holders brought their passbooks for KYC to the bank on Tuesday and took statements of their accounts.
Amount ranging from Rs 7000 to Rs 12,000 were found withdrawn from the bank accounts of around 50 job card holders without their knowledge.
As per the account statements, all the funds were withdrawn by the respective account holders, though they claimed that they have no knowledge of the withdrawal.
Enraged by the finding, the job card holders came to the bank on Wednesday and raised complaints to the bank officials, he said.
Taking serious note of the issue, Imram Khan demanded the authority concerned to investigate the matter and find out if there was any involvement of the local pradhan, ward members and bank officials.
He also drew attention of the chief minister for giving strong instructions for conduct of proper investigation.
He further said that the job card holders tried to meet the bank manager to discuss the issue but the manager is trying to avoid meeting by asking the account holders to submit complaint letters.
Stating that the job card holders belong to poor families, Imram Khan said that they came to the bank to withdraw fund from their accounts all the way from Changamdabi to Porompat only to find their accounts empty.
There are over 1000 job card holders in Changamdabi GP and they have information of the government transferring wages of around Rs 2 crore into the respective bank accounts of the beneficiaries of the GP recently.
This is a serious matter and they will file a police complaint in this regard, he added.
