Imphal, November 23 2022:
While welcoming the government's initiative to bring unity and emotional integration by celebrating the Manipur Sangai Festival in different districts this year, State Platform for Disabled People's Organisation (SPDPO) has appealed to the government for installing separate washrooms for differently abled persons and transgender community at the festival venues for easy access and convenience.
Interacting with media persons in this regard at Hapta Kangjeibung, here, on Wednesday, SPDPO president Md Yunush Khan said that the organisation and differently abled persons of the state commend the initiatives taken up by the government for celebrating the tourism festival after a gap of two years and also appreciate the government for providing separate stalls for differently abled persons and commerce & industry minister Nemcha Kipgen for visiting the stalls and enquiring about their grievances.
In the past editions of the festival, the government installed separate washrooms for differently abled persons and transgender community.
Moreover, differently abled persons were provided free access to the festival venue.
Though this year's festival is being celebrated in a grander manner, the authority failed to add these facilities, which were there in the previous editions.
Expressing concern over the matter, he appealed to the department concerned to install these facilities at the earliest while upholding the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 .
