Imphal, April 24 2024:
Yumnam Shanta, who was allegedly assaulted by volunteers of Arambai Tenggol (AT) for working as the polling agent of the Indian National Congress candidate at the 6/3 Kyamgei Heibong Makhong polling station, claimed that an organisation by the name of Peace & Integrity Committee, Kyamgei (PICK) has been exerting pressure on him to clarify that the assault was carried out by people attired in black dress and not by AT members.
Addressing media persons at Keishamthong, here, on Wednesday, Shanta termed the diktat of KICK as unfortunate, and quoted his younger sister Khoirom Medha as saying that the assault on him and his wife at the said polling station (6/3) during voting for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the first phase of the 18th Lok Sabha was carried out by volunteers of AT.
A leader of AT had also posted on Facebook indicating that those involved would provide clarification, he said.
As the issue had started to settle down, it is regrettable that PICK is pressuring him to clarify that AT had no involvement in the assault, but by individuals dressed in black clothing, he said and added that the incident has left him confused and insecure.
While appealing to all concerned not to threaten and dictate terms in the future, Shanta said that as clarifications necessary have been made and the issued settled on the day of incident itself, there is no need for raking up the same.
Medha also expressed disappointment over those who are at the forefront of saving Manipur are targeting the commoners.
She appealed to those involved not to exert pressure for clarifications regarding the incident.
