Imphal, November 23 2022:
Discontent residents of Khurkhul village staged a sit-in protest against the claim made by certain persons that many areas of the said village fall under Kangpokpi district.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest this morning, Ngangbam Raghumani, president, Khurkhul Land Protection Committee shared that Khurkhul village was assigned village number 38 under Imphal West district by the State administration.
He also alleged that the village used to extend all the way up to the Leimakhong hill area.
However, in recent years, certain communities settled in the hill area and now claim the land as theirs, he maintained.
"On top of this, they put up signboards claiming the area is under Kangpokpi district when really it is under Imphal West district", he further alleged.
As such, sensing the volatile nature of the situation, he drew the attention of the State Government urging them to preserve the boundary of Khurkhul village.
The protestors displayed various placards with messages such as "Stop land encroachment with SoO armed group", "Stop British Colonial policy-Sadar hills", "Form District Boundary Commission", "Withdraw renaming of Villages" etc among others.
