Imphal, November 23 2022:
Kanglei Salai Apunba Lup (KSAL) has advised for stopping the alleged campaign by ATSUM in New Delhi against the demand for granting Schedule Tribe (ST) status to the Meeti/Meitei community.
In a release, KSAL secretary Leikanba Meitei wondered why the ATSUM is hyper apprehensive over the democratic movement for securing constitutional safeguard of the Meeteis as citizens of India.
The demand of STDCM for inclusion of Meetei in the ST list is legitimate under the constitution of India and no one has the right to cause hindrance to it as Meetei is an indigenous community of Manipur.
He enquired whether ATSUM can proof that Meetei is not a tribal and whether it is naive about the identity or requirements of being a tribal.
If Meetei community is not a tribal indigenous community, are they refugee coming from neighbouring countries like Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal, Leikanba Meitei questioned, while demanding to stop anti-ST demand campaign being carried out in the national capital.
