Hearing awareness & screening camp held

Thoubal, November 23 2022:
District Health Society Thoubal organised a 1-Day Hearing Awareness and Screening Camp at Chandrakhong Phanjakhong High School, Chandrakhong village today.
The programme was organised under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD).
It was attended by Chief Medical Officer Thoubal, Dr Y Nokul Singh; Waikhom Bidyashor Singh, head master Chandrakhong Phanjakhong High School; District Nodal Officer, NPPCD, Dr N Pinky Chanu and Community Health Officer, Health and Wellness Centre, Y Sandhya Devi as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Y Nokul Singh elaborated on hearing loss, how to prevent it and reduce its impact.
"The causes of hearing loss among the newborns are due to family history, infections suffered by the mother during pregnancy, premature birth, lack of oxygen at the time of birth or severe jaundice soon after birth, etc", he added.
As part of the programme, Dr N Pinky Chanu, ENT Specialist, DNO, NPPCD; Dr O Birjit Singh, ENT Specialist of District Hospital Thoubal and other paramedical staff also carried out a hearing screening camp.
About 128 persons benefited from the screening camp.
