Bangladesh Manipuris call on CM Biren

A delegation of Manipuris from Bangladesh here in the state to attend the Manipur Sangai Festival called on chief minister N Biren at his official residence on Wednesday.
The Manipuri delegation from Bangladesh and the chief minister exchanged gifts, with the delegation apprising about the situation and hardships faced by Manipuri population in the neighbouring country.
The CM assured of extending possible assistance from his side to the Manipuris in Bangladesh, and to hold talk with the Bangladesh government for taking up wel-fare activities for them.
Meanwhile, Rajarshri Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation, Manipur on Wednesday accorded warm welcome to the cultural troupes of Academy of Manipuri Culture and Arts, Bangladesh, who would be performing in the Manipur Sangai Festival.
President in-charge of the Foundation RK Sanajaoba, general secretary Moirangthem Ashok, senior advisor B Amusana Sharma and treasurer Takhellambam Irabot attended the felicitation function held at the Foundation's office premises at Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai, here.
Speaking on the occasion, Academy of Manipuri Culture and Arts, Bangladesh secretary Gurumayum Santosh presented a brief history of the Academy, which was established in 2003 with the objective to promote Manipuri Jagoi (dance) in Bangladesh.
Except for presentation by some married women in religious events, there were no professional artistes of Manipuri Jagoi in Bangladesh.
However, the Academy has been taking up the role of promoting the art form by inviting instructors from Manipur for teaching Meetei Jagoi, he said.
