Cultural performances enthrall 16th foundation day celebration of Academy of Indigenous Music

The two-day 16th foundation day celebration of Academy of Indigenous Music (AIM) accompanied by a teaching and presentation programme was kicked off at Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai community hall today.
Delivering the keynote address, Shyamchand Irengbam, secretary, AIM underscored the degradation of various cultural art forms, when once upon a time people used to safeguard their culture reverently.
Citing the rarity of Raas Leela performances in local communities, he asserted that as a result of the Academy's efforts, they are now able to stage Ras Leela and Goura Leela performances in many localities.
Further, he shared that the Academy had nurtured their artists without any kind of sponsorship or help.
Adding that the Academy now has 48 artists, he assured that it will continue to mould artists in the future.
Shyamchand Irengbam continued to share that aside from producing new artists, the Academy also stages annual production of Raas Leela, Goura Leela, Gosta Leela, Kalidamohon, Krishna Leela etc and added that they had recently organised a cultural festival and presented many performances.
"In view of the foundation day celebration, the Academy will present a production of Basanta Raas as well as other folk and classical dances and folk songs etc", he said.
AIM is also preparing to represent Manipuri culture in the world stage at Bangladesh with a production of Raas Leela and Goura Leela, he added.
N Amusana Devi, Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee also addressed the gathering and lauded the Academy for their invaluable contribution in imparting education in this field to youngsters.
It may be noted that Konsam Kumar, retired JNMDA guru and AIM advisor graced the event as the functional president During the course of today's function, artists from AIM presented various cultural programs.
