Moreh/Imphal, November 23 2022:
There is no let up in cases related to drug trafficking in Manipur as a combined team of 5 Assam Rifles and Moreh commando seized Pseudoephedrine tablets worth around Rs 118 crore in the international market from near Phungchong village today.
Seizure of drugs has become almost a daily occurrence in Manipur with police arresting a person carrying six gram of heroin recently as a part of the War on Drugs campaign.
According to sources, the tablets were brought in five sacks by an unregistered auto rickshaw coming from Haolenphai Village side.
The driver, however, managed to evade arrest by taking advantage of darkness.
Reportedly, the seized tablets weigh around 118 kg and it might cost around Rs 118 crore in the international market.
The seized tablets have been handed over to Moreh police station.
Notably, police across the country especially North East States have also been seizing consignments of drugs and intoxicants sourced from Manipur worth crores of rupees occasionally.
Though not all, a large share of the drugs seized in North East since the past few days were either brought from or through Manipur with the most notable being the seizure of Rs 14 crore worth of heroin from a Manipur bus while on a study tour by Meghalaya police and the seizure of drugs sourced from Churachandpur worth Rs 50 crore by Assam police.
