NE Olympic Games kicks off as Manipur continue good run in U-17 girls' football

Manipur continued their impressive form with a 6 0 thrashing of Sikkim in the U-17 girls' football competition in the 2nd North Olympic Games at MFA Turf, Polo Ground on Thursday.
Laishram Rejija Devi and Loktongbam Shela Devi equally shared six goals between them.
Rejija kick-started the rout with a 10th-minute opener and then she made it 2-0 in the 16th minute before competing her hat-trick in the 38th minute to give Manipur a commanding 3-0 lead.
Then Shela followed suit taking charge of the rest as she scored the fourth goal in 42nd, netted the fifth in the 63rd minute and rounded off the scoring in the 88th minute.
PTI: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the second edition of the Northeast Olympic Games here on Thursday.
Over 3,000 athletes from the region will participate across 18 sports disciplines.
The first edition was held in Manipur in 2018 .
"Sports are very critical in shaping the mind and personality of the youths," Sangma said while addressing the inaugural function at the SAI complex, Shillong.
Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh said the aim of organising the games is to encourage more participation of youths to discover talents for higher-level competitions.
Disciplines in the games include archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, wushu, cycling, golf, weightlifting and wrestling.
