Over 3 Kgs of brown sugar seized, 3 held

Sangaikot Police arrested two drug peddlers along with 3.564 kilograms of brown sugar from Singngat-Suankuang road under Churachandpur district yesterday night.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ngamkholal Guite (40) of Mongjang village, Singngat and Mangmuanlian Hangluah (46) of Buangmun village, Singngat.
Producing the drugs seized and the two arrested persons before the media today, Churachandpur district Superintendent of Police, Shivanand Surve said the seizure could be one of the largest in the district.
The drugs are believed to be from Myanmar.
Following a reliable input about some smugglers attempting to transport illegal drugs along the Singngat-Suankuang road, a team of Sangaikot Police Station led by its Officer in-Charge, Kris Thangpu opened a temporary check post at new Teikot village.
At around 8.30 pm, the police team intercepted 2 Kenbo bikes and detained the two persons for verification and checking.
While checking, the police personnel in presence of the Executive Magistrate found 297 soap cases containing brown sugar weighing 3.564 kilograms in total.
The two were arrested on the spot and the police seized the brown sugar, the two Kenbo bikes and mobile phones from their possession.
Sangaikot police station has registered a case under relevant Sections of the ND&PS Act for further investigation, said sources.
