Biswajit gives clarion call to curb drug menace

Eteen Computerised Eye Testing & Eye Care Centre, Thoubal and World Expression Pictures jointly released a Manipuri music video album titled 'Poppy Leirang' based on anti-drug campaign during a function held at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday.
OC Meira and Maibam Eteen Meitei are respectively the director and the producer of music video album, the lyric of which has been penned by Keke Wahengbam, music by Nanao Sagolmang and sung by P Rajendro Meetei.
Speaking at the event, power minister Thongam Biswajit desired that every community in the state contribute towards in ending the drug menace and further appealed for joint effort in fighting against social ills.
He wished that the newly released album may contribute in the fight against drug menace and climate change due to environmental degradation caused by deforestation.
Tourism Corporation of Manipur chairman and MLA Karam Shyam, who also attended the function, expressed confidence that the music album will influence the people, the youth in particular.
While noting that Manipur has undesirably become the hub for narcotic drugs, he said that the government is working tirelessly to fight it.
Sincerity on the side of law enforcement agency is vital in the fight against drugs, he said and contended that there were signs of callousness upon the part of the law enforcement agencies as is evident from seizure of large consignment of drugs originated from Manipur outside the state.
He continued that drug business could not be done by lay man and further urged to find out the rich people involved in the business and punish them stringently.
The function was also attended by Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited chairman MLA Kh Ibomcha, NAB SP K Meghachandra Singh, Imphal East Upadhyaksha Dr Kshetri Tama and social worker
Leitanthem Basanta among others.
