JNIMS hostel inaugurated

Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated Gents' Hostel No.3 at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat in presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh and Public Health Engineering Minister L Susindro Meitei today.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister stated that considerable changes could be seen in JNIMS, mentioning the increase in ICU beds, opening of neurological surgery facilities, installation of oxygen plants and successful kidney transplant operations, among others.
Pointing out that the seats of MBBS course in JNIMS had been increased to 150, he added the newly inaugurated gents' hostel would help in accommodating more students.

N Biren maintained the State Government had been putting in efforts to bring up JNIMS to the National level and expressed that he was impressed with the performance of the institute.
The Government has been trying to further develop the Institute.
Informing that the institute has no facility for plastic surgery as of now, he added that cases related to kidney transplant and cancer had been given priority.
The Chief Minister informed that the Government has been considering to open facilities of neurological surgery.
For this, equipment worth around Rs 10 crore must be procured.
Manpower of two doctors is needed and DPC for the same has been conducted, he further informed.
He mentioned that the State Government could not add the required facilities at one go due to fund constraints.
Nonetheless, necessary facilities will be opened one after another on priority basis, he assured.
Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) V Vumlunmang, Director (JNIMS) Prof Laishram Deben Singh, doctors and staff of JNIMs also attended the inaugural programme, among others.
