Imphal, November 10 2022:
All India State Government Employees' Confederation, Manipur state committee representative M Joykumar raised the demand for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme by abolishing the New Pension Scheme (NPS) during the International Employees and Trade meeting, which is underway in Faridabad, Haryana.
On the second day of the meeting on Thursday, Joykumar said that implementation of NPS began from 2005 in Manipur too but the scheme is disastrous for every employee and worker as there is no provision for family pension in it.
Unlike the Old Pension Scheme, NPS has no Dearness Relief and no benefit in case of untimely demise of employee, he said.
Joykumar also pointed out that Manipur lies in the North Eastern region of India with a proud written history of over more than 2000 years but the state remains undeveloped due to neo-liberal economic policy of Government of India.
Even though Manipur fought the mighty British and have enough courageous intellectuals, inclusive development could not be brought while there is no proper system for higher education as investment in education sector remains less than 3 percent of the GDP against the proposed 6 percent, Jokumar said at the meeting and strongly called upon every citizen of the country for launching a movement for socialism.
The meeting decided to conduct more International Employees and Trade meets at different countries and convene international congress later.
