JNIMS Cancer Hospital Inauguration in March: CM

Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the Gents' Hostel No.3 at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat in the presence of Health and Family Welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh and Public Health Engineering minister L Susindro Meitei on Thursday.
Talking to the media on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren expressed satisfaction that considerable changes could be seen in JNIMS, including the increase in ICU beds, opening of neurological surgery facilities, installation of oxygen plants, successful kidney transplant operations and opening of an 18-bedded VVIP ward among others.
He mentioned that as the seats of MBBS course at JNIMS had been increased to ISO, the newly inaugurated Gents' Hostel would help in accommodating more students.
The CM then informed that the new cancer hospital of JNIMS which is currently under construction will be completed by March next year Biren maintained the state government had been putting in efforts to develop JNIMS to an institute of national repute and said that he was impressed with the performance of the Institute.
The government is trying, as a team work, to bring further development in the Institute.
Noting that the Institute has no facility for plastic surgery as of now, and cases related to kidney transplant and cancer are being given priority, he revealed that the government is considering opening facilities for neurological surgery 24x7 and equipment worth around Rs 10 crore are needed to be procured.
Manpower of two doctors is needed and DPC for the same has been conducted, he added.
Responding to questions from media persons regarding any government plan to improve gastroenterology treatment facilities in JNIMS, the CM said that efforts are being made to bring JNIMS at par with national level medical institutions.
Although the state government could not add the required facilities at one go due to fund constraints, necessary facilities will be opened one after another on priority basis.
Thus, there will be opportunities for gastroenterology treatment facilities as well in due course of time, he conveyed.
Additional chief secretary (Health and Family Welfare) V Vumlunmang, director (JNIMS) Prof Laishram Deben Singh, doctors and staff of JNIMS also attended the inaugural programme among others.
