Enquiry into alleged PMGSY fund scam begins

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR) Department has launched an enquiry into the reported siphoning off of Rs 8.29 crore in the construction of Galkapkot-Gamhui road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMJSY) as alleged by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra recently.
RD&PR joint director on November 4 had sought a report in this regard from Rural Engineering Department (RED)/Manipur State Rural Roads Development Agency (MSRRDA) chief engineer/EO Pantishing Thaimel.
In his report submitted on November 8, Pantish ing Thaimel conveyed that a committee headed by self has been constituted to en-quire/inspect the work taken up on Galkapkot-Gamhui road in Churachandpur district followed by serving notice to the contractor concerned in this regard on November 7.The CE/EO also requested the RD&PR joint director to allow the Committee to submit its detailed report on or before December 11, adding that at present there is no report of any similar cases.
It may be mentioned that on October 31, MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra claimed that Rs 8.29 crore had been withdrawn without executing PMGSY project of Galkapot to Gamhui road under Thanlon sub-division in Churachandpur district and demanded the government to take up appropriate actions against those involved in the scam.
