Power Minister Thongam Biswajit has asserted that the State administration launched War on Drugs campaign to uproot the evil of drugs which could potentially hurt generations of people.
He was speaking at the release function of Manipuri music video album 'Poppy Leirang', which is based on the War on Drugs campaign today.
The function was held at Manipur Press Club and organised by Eteen Computerised Eye Testing and Eye Care Centre, Thoubal and World Expression Pictures.
'Poppy Leirang' is directed by OC Meira with Maibam Eteen Meitei as producer, Keke Wahengbam as lyricist, music by Nanao Sagolmang, P Rajendro Meetei as the singer, Sanjit XL as editor and Dabo Wangkheimayum as the make up artist.
Addressing the gathering, Thongam Biswajit pointed out that it is the duty of every community in the State to help in eradicating the menace of drug abuse which could ruin the lives of youths.
Touching upon the topic of climate change, he expressed hope that the newly released song 'Poppy Leirang' will also contribute positively in the initiative to save the environment.
Karam Shyam, MLA Langthabal Constituency and Chairman, Tourism Corporation Manipur Ltd also spoke on the occasion and commented on the timeliness of the release of 'Poppy Leirang' citing the intensive focus on War on Drugs campaign in the State.
He then expressed hope that the song will influence the youth in a positive manner.
Addressing the drug problem in the State, the MLA opined that law enforcement agencies need to be sincere and diligent to eradicate this scourge.
He added that seizure of large consignment of drugs coming from Manipur in other States is proof of their lack of sincerity.
Claiming that wealthy people are involved in the business of drug smuggling and not mere ordinary citizens, he called for their arrest and appropriate punishment of these people.
Today's function was also attended by Kh Ibomcha, Lamlai MLA and Chairman, Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd; K Meghachandra Singh, SP, Narcotics Affairs and Borders (NAB) Manipur Police Department; Dr Kshetri Tama, Upadhyaksha, Imphal East ZP and social worker Leitanthem Basanta as presidium members.
