District level workshop on human trafficking conducted

A 1-Day District Level Workshop on human trafficking was organised by Impulse NGO Network, Shillong in collaboration with New Life Foundation, Manipur at L Mani Memorial Training Hall, Thamnapokpi on November 8 .
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lamabam Pishak Singh, secretary, New Life Foundation, Manipur pointed out the notorious increase in human trafficking cases in the State.
"Manipur has become a source, transit and destination State in connection with this atrocious racket", said Dr Lamabam Pishak while adding that the State has become a place to source women & children irrespective of age and a place of transit for these human trafficking victims to be whisked off to foreign countries.
"There is a pressing need for the State administration and the public at large to launch concerted action to curb the unlawful activity of human trafficking in the same vein as 'War on Drugs' campaign, 'School Fahathansi Mission', 'Education for all' campaign etc", he asserted.
Rajen Kha-Nganba, Officer-in-charge, Moirang Police Station, spoke at length on "role of police to combat human trafficking" .
Keisam Pradipkumar, former member of Manipur Commission For Protection of Child Rights, delivered a speech on the topic, "Modus operandi and preventive measures of human trafficking in Manipur" .
Later, an interaction programme was also conducted.
