Thang-Ta gaining popularity: Bhaktakumar

Indigenous martial art form of the state, Thang-Ta is gaining popularity as a sporting event and it will help in promoting the art form further, said Chief Ministergee Indigenous Martial Arts Academy secretary Kshetrimayum Bhaktakumar.
He was speaking at a workshop cum production of ex -position of Thang-Ta artistes with some performing arts of Manipur' held at the premises of Kangleipak Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Lairenpat, Imphal East on Thursday.
The event was organised under the aegis of ministry of culture.
Addressing the gather ing, Bhaktakumar said that Thang-Ta has become a competitive discipline of Khelo India Youth Games launched by the ministry of youth affairs and sports.
The indigenous martial art form of Manipur is also gaining popularity as a sporting event in different parts of the world, which shows a good future of the art form.
Today, it is part of the school education curriculum in the state.
It will not only promote the indigenous art form but also help in keeping the players healthy and well-mannered, he said.
Ranganiketan chairman Ajit Das, Manipur State Kala Akademi awardee Puthem Mangi and Kshetrimayum Bhaktakumar attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Artistes of Kangleipak Thang-Ta Cultural Association also presented Thang-Ta and Jagoi Ishei performances.
