NIA Court extends custody of seven

The Special Court, NIA Manipur today granted an application filed by the Chief Investigating Officer of NIA, Imphal Branch for extending the judicial custody period of seven people allegedly involved in the killing of non-locals at Kakching and Huikap in June and July last year from 90 days to 180 days.
The application was filed by the Chief Investigating Officer of NIA Imphal Branch yesterday before the Court.
The accused persons are presently lodged in Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.
The accused persons identified as Chingakham Basanta (38) s/o Ningthembi of Andro Nungyungbi, Moirangthem Jitesh (22) s/o (L) Sanjit of Kakching Ningthou Leikai, Konjengbam Romio alias Nongthon (28) s/o Raghu of Moirang Konjengbam, Phanjoubam Rabi alias Nanao (26) s/o Kula of Andro Labaochum Ching Leikai, Salam Mangijao (55) s/o (L) Tombi of Kakching Wairi Salam Leikai, Naorem Manoj (23) s/o Nobin of Luker Mayai leikai and Samurailatpam Akash alias Muston (19) s/o Rajeswor of Kakching Wairi Saban Bamon Leikai were produced before the Court from Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa for hearing of the application filed by NIA, Imphal Branch.
The Special PP, NIA submitted that the investigation of the case is in progress after re-registering the case based on an FIR registered at Yairipok police station in compliance with an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Saying that the judicial custody period of the accused of 90 days will be complete on November 12 and further judicial custody period is required for proper investigation, the Special PP prayed for extending judicial custody period.
The Court, on perusal of the application and hearing submission of the Special PP and counsel of the accused persons, granted the application of NIA for extending the judicial custody period from 90 to 180 days.
