University and Higher Education Dept hands over 10 computer sets to Manipur College

Manipur College organised an induction ceremony for a free students' capacity building programme on "Computer Applications, Accounting & Publishing" at the premises of the College today.
The ceremony was attended by T Ojit, Joint Director, University and Higher Education; Dr W Shambunath, Principal, Manipur College and N Debachandra, Director, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, N Debachandra highlighted the importance of this programme stating that it will increase IT literacy.
Aside from this, this programme will equip college graduates with additional qualifications and skills, he said.

Students who have completed this programme can apply for the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) aligned course.
Further, students belonging to ST/SC community will not be charged any fees for this aligned course, N Debachandra shared.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, T Ojit urged students not to take this course lightly merely because it is provided free of cost.
He also handed over ten computer sets to the principal of Manipur College for successful implementation of the programme.
Dr W Shambunath shared that the programme was undertaken in continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Manipur College, Singjamei and NIELIT, Imphal under the initiative of the Directorate of University and Higher Education and NIELIT, Imphal.
The programme will be divided into 2 batches of 30 students each for a period of 200 hours (approximately 3 months) wherein faculties of NIELIT will teach the students about computer applications, accounting and publishing at the premises of Manipur College, he informed.
It is part of NEP-2020 initiative to direct focus in the IT sector to increase employability in a State like Manipur where there is a lack of industries, Dr W Shambunath added.
He concluded by sharing that there are plans to establish a placement cell in Manipur College.
