Allege demand for bribe to release pension

The Special Court Prevention of Corruption Act Imphal West has remanded a Junior Accountants Assistant and Daftry of Imphal Treasury office to judicial custody till November 24 .
The Court also kept bail applications filed by the accused persons on reserved till November 15 .
Junior Accountant Assistant Moirangthem Bijoy (43) of Singjamei Chinga Mathak Nameirakpam Leikai and Daftry Lalminthang Lotjem (57) of Denglen Village Kangpokpi were produced before the Court after the completion of police custody period by a team of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Cell.
The Investigating Officer of the case through Assistant Public Prosecutor submitted that the complainant of the case, a retired Army personnel had claimed that he had approached the Imphal Treasury office many times to claim his due pension since April 2022 .
During this the accused persons allegedly demanded a total of Rs Rs 20,000 for disturbing his monthly pension.
The retired army personnel further alleged the accused persons had threatened that they would not approve further pension if they are not given the money asked.
On preliminary examination, the accused persons have admitted to the charges levelled against them, said the IO .
Accused M Bijoy stated that his job profile includes passing bills, State pension etc and that he is the supervisor of Management of Central Military Pension Account.
He allegedly disclosed that he demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant for disbursing his monthly pension.
Accused Lalminthang also disclosed that he demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant for disbursing his monthly pension.
The Court on perusal of the case record and submissions, remanded both the accused persons to judicial custody till November 24 .
The Court also kept on reserved the order of bail application filed by the accused persons till November 15 .
