Imphal, April 12 2022:
All Manipur Hills and Valley Individual Surrender Welfare Association secretary Md Abdul Latif has said that delaying tactics played by state government regarding welfare of surrendered UGs is very unfortunate.
Abdul Latif told media persons at Manipur Press Club on Tuesday that the state cabinet meeting held on May 21, 2017 decided that surrendered UGs will be given opportunity to join security forces while relaxing age and educational qualification if physically fit and approval for opening a police battalion comprising only surrendered UGs was also given.
CM N Biren too assured in the state assembly of necessary action for rehabilitation of surrendered UGs and taking up steps to ease their suffering.
However, no positive action has been initiated so far, he lamented, and appealed to government to provide benefits as promised by the state cabinet.
He also warned that surrendered UGs will never remain silent and will take up democratic forms of agitations if government fails to take up positive action.
