Imphal, August 21 2026:
As a part of the State Government's continuing efforts to restore peace and normalcy, public transport services on the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route resumed today.
The resumption of the bus service after a gap of nearly three years marked a significant development towards restoring normal life and strengthening connectivity.
A total of 125 passengers travelled on the route in two buses and five Wingers.
The buses have already crossed Kangpokpi, a Kuki inhabited district and Senapati, a Naga inhabited district) .
The buses will then enter Nagaland en-route to Guwahati, Assam.

It may be mentioned that during his last visit to Kangpokpi district on August 8, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, along with Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, had announced the reopening of National Highways for free movement of all communities and that the Imphal- Dimapur-Guwahati bus service would be resumed soon.
One of the travellers, Kiyam Kumarjit Singh from Thoubal district, appreciated the State Government for the "positive initiative" .
He added that this initiative should usher in love, peace, and harmony among all communities in the State, and help people move beyond what had happened in the past.
"Let us all forgive and forget the past," he added.
Nivedita, from Khundrakpam village in Imphal East district, expressed hope for the journey to bring peace in the State.
National Highway 2 had remained off limits to the Meiteis since the evening of May 3, 2023 and attempts to re-open the highway had met with stiff opposition.
The free movement initiative taken up on March 8, 2024 was thwarthed following strong opposition from people settled along the way.
In the stand off that followed back then, one protester was killed.
