Imphal, August 17 2026:
Taking the ongoing civil movement for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to a new level, the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has called a 48 hour general strike all over the State from with effect from August 17 midnight till August 19 midnight.
Speaking to media persons at WAL Club, Wangkhei Angom Leikai today, JFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba said that they have already announced a complete boycott of the self enumeration process which is a part of the census operation.

The State Government's sheer indifference to the people's deep rooted concerns and the growing voice for updating the NRC, the JFD has been constrained to call a 48 hour general strike across the State, he said.
"We don't have any intention to create trouble or add to the people's woes.
We are compelled to call the general strike to exert pressure on the State Government which has shut its eyes and ears to the people's collective will and demand", Jeetendra said.
He said that the decision to call the 48 hour general strike was adopted after a minute deliberation among the JFD, associated organisations and leaders of different communities.
Instead of taking any tangible step to protect the indigenous people and secure their future, the Government has been conducting training programmes for enumerators and supervisors surreptitiously, he said.
Saying that the JFD has been working to foil these training programmes, he appealed to all people to thwart all census-related training programmes if they come to know of any such programme.
The JFD convenor also appealed to all sections of people to relax the general strike for religious activities, medical services and other essential services.
If the State Government continues with its callous attitude toward this critical issue of updating the NRC even after the 48-hours general strike, the JFD will switch to more intensified modes of agitation, he said.
Native People's Committee co-convenor Dr L Phaomei, Chandel Naga People's Organisation Working committee convenor Thimson Saka, United Meitei Pangal Committee advisor Islam Makakcha and Foothills Naga Coordination Committee convenor Akhiu Ngaomei were present at the press meet and all of them pledged support to the JFD's movement.
