Imphal/Ukhrul, August 21 2026:
Many organisations including the Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long, the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) have vehemently condemned the use of excessive force by security forces against peaceful protesters at Kanglatongbi which seriously hurt at least four including a minor.
There were others who too were injured.
The Working Committee of the TNL, in a statement, said the peaceful sit-in protest was staged at Namdilong demanding justice for the brutal murder of six abducted Liangmai Nagas and the killing of two farmers at Langka Naga village.
The security forces including Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel cracked down on the peaceful protest causing serious injuries to at least four persons, it said.
One of the four injured has been identified as Wikhonliu (36), the wife of Phengrongwi-who was among the six abducted and murdered.
The three others are identified as Wilobou (33), Chunwibou (17) and Masenwangbou (44) .
The injured are reportedly receiving treatment at hospitals in Imphal.
The peaceful and democratic protest staged by the victim families, friends, well-wishers and members of the Naga fraternity was abruptly interrupted by the brute force of the security forces, said the committee.
In spite of the wide demand for delivery of justice from across various sections of the society, the State Government is yet to come out in clear terms regarding the May 13 abduction and later brutal murder of six Liangmai Nagas at Leilon Vaiphei village, it added.
Even after three months, Kuki National Font-Presidential (KNF-P) president ST Thangboi Kigpgen, the husband of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, and his cadres who were allegedly involved in the abduction and killing, and the chief and local CSOs representatives of Leilon Vaiphei remain scot-free till date, said the committee.
The Tangkhul Naga community remains steadfast in "our support" to the cause of the Liangmai Nagas, and fully endorses the demands of the United Naga Council (UNC) concerning the prevailing situation in the hills of Manipur, it said.
AMUCO too condemned the use of excessive force, tear gas shells and rubber bullets, against peaceful protesters including the grieving families of six Liangmai Naga men.
It urged the Government to swiftly arrest all the culprits involved in the killing of the Liangmai Naga men and deliver justice to their families.
COCOMI, in a separate statement, said it strongly condemns the crackdown on peaceful protesters which hurt four and the brief detention of four individuals related to the protest demonstration.
The grieving families of the six Liangmai Nagas and the community members were forced to organise the sit-in protest due to lack of empathy by the Government.
The Government's failure to arrest all the persons involved in the heinous killing, and deliver justice had forced the people to protest, it said.
Demanding justice for the Liangmai Naga victims, COCOMI further asserted that the Government must crackdown on SoO and non-SoO Kuki militant groups.
The crises in Manipur will be resolved once the Government is able to rein in SoO and non-SoO Kuki militant groups, it added.
The Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) also condemned the use of excessive force against the protesters, asking the Government to provide adequate medical care and compensation to those injured.
It also sought an assurance from the Government that peaceful protesters will not be subjected to excessive force while exercising their democratic rights, and called for justice for the six Liangmai Nagas.
