CM calls for peaceful coexistence on Partition Horror Remembrance Day

Imphal, August 14 2026:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, today attended the Partition Horror Remembrance Day at the Palace Auditorium, Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound, Imphal.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor stated that the partition of 1947 was not merely a territory division, it was a human tragedy.
There are moments in the Nation's history that are marked by the celebrations and there are others that call upon us to pause, remember and reflect, he said.

The Govt of India declared August 14, 1947 as Partition Horror Remembrance Day in 2021 to show that the sufferings, sacrifice and displacement endured during partition would remain part of "our National memory" .
On the occasion, the Chief Minister spoke about hardships faced by the people due to the partition which led to loss of countless lives and widespread damage to properties.
He also acknowledged concerns and suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs), and said "the pain felt by the people due to any crisis is the same" .
He appealed to the people of the State to promote peaceful and harmonious coexistence.
A 2-minute silence was observed to pay respect to all those affected by the partition.
Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam Singh, several MLAs, Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary Anu- rag Bajpai, Art and Culture Secretary Naorem Praveen Singh, Transport Director Khumanthem Diana Devi and students attended the event.
