The BJP MLAs sought attention of the Union Textiles Minister to the ongoing strong civil movement for protection of the indigenous people of Manipur by identifying all illegal immigrants living in the State through an updated NRC .
Noting that the indigenous people's demand is legitimate, Giriraj Singh reportedly assured that he would take the matter to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
The indigenous people of Manipur will face huge challenges in every field if the illegal immigrants are not identified and weeded out and the Government of India has taken serious note of it, Giriraj said.
In a social media post, Giriraj Singh wrote "Today, a cordial meeting took place at the Ministry of Textiles with the Hon'ble Home Minister of Manipur Government, K Govindas, MLAs Dr Ranjan, P Brojen, Kh Raghumani, Kh Ibom-cha and BJP State Secretary K Saratkumar.
"During this meeting, an extremely meaningful and positive discussion took place on the overall development of the State, welfare schemes and various important contemporary issues", Giriraj added.
Even though the team led by Govindas Konthoujam had sought an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister is currently in south India.
The BJP MLAs from Manipur will meet with Amit Shah and talk about the burning issue of NRC once Amit Shah returns to Delhi.
In the meantime, the MLAs have been trying to meet with some other Union Ministers and BJP National leaders, said one of them to The Sangai Express.
