Tronglaobi attack accused sent to Assam jail

Imphal, August 21 2026: S Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Tronglaobi terror attack has been remanded to judicial custody, a jail in Assam.

Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson who is said to be the 'finance head' of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) was arrested by the NIA on August 12, 2026 in connection with the terror attack at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai on April 7, 2026 in which two toddlers were killed.

The mother of the two children also sustained critical injuries in the attack.

S Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson was produced before the NIA Special Court-II, Manipur today through video conferencing.

A special PP appearing for the NIA submitted that in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the State and the ethnic tension prevailing in the region, the lodging of the accused in any jail within the State is fraught with serious risk.

The PP said that continued detention of the accused within the State may endanger his personal safety and life, and may also give rise to a law and order problem in and around the place of detention.

Moreover, if S Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson is kept within the State, he may be able to establish contact with his associates and other absconding accused of the case and this will seriously hamper the ongoing investigation, the Special PP said.

On the other hand, the accused pleaded that he be allowed to be detained in District Jail, Churachandpur in view of his health conditions.

He also said that meeting with his family members will be easy if he is kept in Churachandpur.

The Court, after hearing both the parties, remanded the accused in judicial custody till September 3, 2026 .

The Court also directed that S Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson be kept at Central Jail, Guwahati, Assam.

Subsequent upon the Court's direction, S Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson was taken to Guwahati this evening.

Earlier during interrogation, Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson admitted to being the 'finance head' of the UKNA .

Investigators have linked Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson to several other acts of violence apart from the Tronglaobi terror attack.

Police said he was involved in the December 16, 2025 bombing at Tronglaobi, a firing incident at Molnom in the intervening night of February 3 and 4, 2026 and firing incidents in March and July this year.

He was also involved in a firing incident in the Kaprang area on July 4, shortly before Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand's scheduled visit to Churachandpur.

Police have also linked Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson to a March 26 firing incident and another incident involving a CRPF camp, according to investigation details provided by the authorities.
