Imphal, April 12 2022:
Regarding the proposed distribution of urea to farmers based on soil health card, All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) has submitted memorandum to the agriculture minister and the agriculture director urging for easing the problems faced by the farmers.
In a release, AMPFA publicity secretary Areng Kom said that members of the association met the director and came to an understanding about soil health card.
The memorandum stated that the farmers desired conducting of soil test, but it would be inappropriate because of the onset of farming season.
In order to solve the issue of shortage of urea faced by the farmers, the memorandum appealed for taking up initiatives for making a document which could identify the farming areas of the farmers.
Urea and other benefits should be distributed to the farmers through EO/VLW that are nearer to them after identification.
If the department could not stock it adequately, then they could distribute it in three phases, the memorandum suggested.
It also appealed for using convenient means for payment.
While informing that the director assured of fulfilling the demands highlighted in the memorandum, Areng said that the association will try to allay the apprehensions of the farmers.
