Henry files petition against Arunkumar

Former minister and Wangkhei AC ex-MLA Okram Henry has filed an election petition against incumbent Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arunkumar at the High Court of Manipur.
The motion hearing of same will be conducted on Wednesday.
According to a source, Okram Henry, in his Election Petition Case No.1/2022, alleged that the affidavit submitted by Thangjam Arunkumar while filing the nomination paper, contain some wrong and missing information.
Henry was the contesting BJP candidate in the election.
It may be mentioned here that the candidates who got defeated in the previous 11th Manipur Legislative Election had also filed election petitions against the winning candidates in the High Court of Manipur, leading to disqualification of some of the sitting MLAs.
The Supreme Court of India had ruled that such cases should be disposed within six months.
Henry is represented by advocate Siddhartha Shankar Dey and the petition is listed for motion hearing on Wednesday at Court no 4 of the Manipur High Court.
The source further conveyed that similar election petitions could be filed in the High Court against some of the incumbent MLAs in the coming days.
