Imphal, July 31 2022:
The Manipur Sand Association (MSA) has alleged that sands transported from Dimapurto Imphal were taken off trucks by substantial quantity at Tadubi by some men who claimed to be members of the Senapati District Truck Owners Association (SDTOA).
Speaking to media persons at Koirengei this afternoon, MSA general secretary Gurumayum Shitaljit Sharma said that some men who claimed to be members of SDTOA halted all sand-laden trucks at Tadubi on July 28 and the trucks were allowed to proceed towards Imphal only after removing substantial quantity of sands from each one of them.
The trucks were heading towards Imphal after obtaining transit passes from Forest officials stationed at Mao where they also paid necessary fees, Shitaljit said.
As told by drivers, the purported members of SDTOA took off sands from the trucks on the pretext that the trucks were overloaded, Shitaljit said.
He then questioned who authorised the purported SDTOA members to halt trucks and take off sands which were given transit passes by the competent authority.
He then urged the State Government to look into the matter before it becomes a big issue.
He also appealed to CSOs of Senapati district to take up necessary steps and
check such illegal activities.
