Imphal, July 31 2022:
RTI activist Wahengbam
Joykumar has
demanded the state government
to take disciplinary
action against the
Vice Chancellor of Manipur
Technical University,
who, he said, is not only
immoral but does not even
fulfill the University Grant
Commission (UGC) criteria
as a history scholar.
In case of failing to do so,
he will file a complaint in
the High Court of Manipur,
Joykumar said.
Addressing a press meet
at Manipur Press Club here
on Saturday, Joykumar said
that as per UGC guidelines,
the VC of MTU should be
a professor with 10 years
of experience or equivalent.
However, the state
government has appointed
someone who is not a professor
but an undergraduate
teacher as the VC.
In this regard, a complaint
was filed to All India
Council for Technical Education
(AICTE) and UGC on
June 3, following which the
UGC wrote to the principal
secretary of Department
of Higher Education Manipur
on June 26 directing
for action to be taken in the
matter.
On June 28, another
direction was issued to the
chief secretary for initiating
disciplinary action against
the VC of MTU.
However,
the government is continuing
to ignore the matter,
which is unfortunate.
The
previous government was
renowned for corruption
but the ruling government
has taken it up by a notch by
breaking rules and appointing
anyone at own sweet
will, Joykumar said.
Thus,
he urged the government
to take up strict action in
the matter at the earliest.
