TDC extends monetary aid

Imphal, September 13 2026: The Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) has extended monetary assistance to owners of vehicles damaged in the September 10 Noney incident, and to family of a deceased driver.

TDC president Hijam Ranjit extended the monetary assistance at a programme held at Imphal West Langjing Achouba Parking.

Assistance upto Rs 15,000 were provided to vehicles depending on the degree of damage incurred.

Notably, several trucks travelling from Jiribam to Imphal were damaged in pelting of stones at Noney on September 10 amid economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC) .

Speaking at the programme, Hijam Ranjit appreciated the drivers' community for the dedication and service, and appealed to people of communities, especially those residing along the highway, not to attack and bring harm to drivers.

He further clarified that there has been no incident of firing towards trucks at Noney.

He stressed that a video of vehicles' tyres being changed at Wahengbam Leikai has been shared falsely as that of vehicles damaged in an alleged firing at Noney.

A complaint against the person circulating the video will be filed, he added.

He also urged the Government to bring about a resolution to end the economic blockade, and strengthen security measures along the highway for safe passage of vehicles.

Meanwhile, the TDC also extended a sum of Rs 50,000 to the family of Ningthoujam Noren, a driver who passed away after a prolonged illness following a road accident.

Noren was a resident of Phayeng Awang Leikai.

He had been staying at the Phayeng Smart relief camp.
