During the convention, the speakers recounted the destruction of Puyas in 1729 after the arrival of Santidas Gosai during the reign on king Pamheiba in the 18th century and subsequent replacement of Meetei Mayek by Bengali script.
After a prolong movement for 50 years, the people of Manipur could use their own script again in 2006.However, some groups are still trying to suppress the promotion of the script and cause its degradation.
As such, time has come to take up strict steps to protect and promote the Meetei Mayek.
Later, the convention adopted 3 resolutions.
The resolutions included banning all attempts to prevent the use of 27-lettered Meetei Mayek script; any organisation found violating the resolutions will be regarded as public enemy; and lastly, for the government to consult experts and take up requisite steps for promotion of the 27 letters of the Meetei Mayek script.
