Imphal, September 13 2026: The State Government has appealed to all CSOs to stop disturbing normal functioning of Government offices and to refrain from multiplying the people's misery.

Speaking to media persons at the Durbar Hall, CM Secretariat today, Government spokesman Th Radheshyam said that the ongoing agitation of preventing Govt employees from attending their offices at a time when census has already been deferred and the State Government has been working to fulfil the people's demand would only multiply the people's misery.

For over three years, the people of Manipur have been suffering a lot.

Nonetheless, the State Govt under Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand has been working hard to restore peace and normalcy in the State, they said.

Census has been already deferred and the State Government has been pursuing the NRC.

The State Government has also written to the Centre on the demand for updating the NRC, Radhe-shyam said.

He added that the State Government has been working hard to open National Highways.

In the midst of all these efforts, some CSOs have been continuing with different modes of agitation including preventing Government employees from attending their offices, the Government spokesman said.

The agitation being carried out by JFD (Campaign for Justice and Fair Delimitation) demanding the closure of Government offices in connection with the updating of the NRC should be withdrawn, he said before appealing to all concerned to stop multiplying people's misery or create situations which may breed unrest in the society.

Closure of Government offices will only add to the people's misery who have been already suffering a lot, Radheshyam said.

Taking due note of the demand raised by different sections of people for keeping the census exercise at bay, the Chief Minister and some CSOs went to Delhi and persuaded the Centre to defer the census exercise.

After the census had been deferred, the Chief Minister wrote to the Centre to update the NRC, mentioning a base year, Radheshyam said.

He said that the eighth session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly reaffirmed its earlier resolution to conduct NRC before the census, and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has conveyed the same to the Central Government.

Pointing out that any agitation has adverse impacts on the economy and the State's economy has already fallen into a very bad shape, he appealed to CSOs to abstain from all forms of agitation.

He appealed to all sections of the public 'to give peace a chance in Manipur' and to support the endeavours of the current Government in restoring peace and normalcy to the State.

The Government spokesman said that Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and some MLAs are currently at New Delhi and they will talk with key leaders of the Centre to update the NRC in Manipur.

Relevant authorities have rushed to Tamenglong to look into the killing of two persons today.

It is a matter of grave concern that violent incidents break out every time when there is some semblance of peace and normalcy in the State, Radheshyam remarked.

Even though a large number of security forces are deployed in the State, not every village or location can be protected because of the hilly terrain covered by thick forests, he added.
