Imphal, September 12 2026: Vehemently condemning the deadly attack carried out by blockade supporters along Imphal-Jiribam highway which resulted in injuries to many drivers of oil tankers and damages to several vehicles, POL (Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant) have launched an indefinite cease work strike from today.

The POL drivers have been demanding an enquiry against the security personnel who forced them to drive their vehicles through Noney amid the economic blockade called by the United Naga Council (UNC) .

Apart from launching the cease work strike, members of the All Manipur Petroleum Product Drivers Association (AMPPDA) staged a sit-in-protest in front of the IOCL's Malom Depot.

One AMPPDA member said that oil tankers stopped their movement considering the UNC's indefinite economic blockade but the security personnel escorting other trucks forced the oil tanker drivers to drive their vehicles forward.

On reaching Noney, blockade supporters attacked the oil tankers and it resulted in serious injuries to many drivers, he said.

He urged the Government to institute a departmental enquiry against the security personnel who forced oil tankers to move forward, and take concrete action against the erring security personnel.

The Government should pay adequate compensation to all the injured drivers as well as for the damaged vehicles, he said.

He further asked the Government to take effective measures to ensure free movement on National Highways.

Meanwhile, the Manipur IOCL Retail Outlet Dealers Association has extended a financial assistance of Rs 30,000 to Khumukcham Sanamatum, helper of an oil tanker, who was injured in the recent Noney incident.

Sanamatum is presently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.

The association has also urged the Government and authorities concerned to take immediate and appropriate measures to find a lasting solution to the present situation affecting the petroleum business and retail outlet operations in Manipur.
