Imphal, July 31 2022:
Five Moreh-based
civil society organisations
(CSOs) have alleged that
due to inordinate delay
caused by personnel of 20
Assam Rifles manning its
Khudengthabi check post a
patient died before availing
treatment.
While stating that a vehicle
carrying a patient
from Moreh to Imphal on
Saturday was detained
protractedly under the
garb of checking, Morehbased
Hill Tribal Council,
Kuki Students' Organisation,
Kuki Women Union
& Human Rights, Moreh
Youth Club and Kuki Khanglai
Lawmpi Moreh Block
stated that Assam Rifles
posted at Khudengthabi
should bear responsibility
for the death of a
patient name Khenkhup
Lethil of Phaicham Veng,
Moreh who was referred to
Imphal for hospitalisation
from Moreh Sub-divisional
Hospital on July 30.
A joint release by presidents
of five organisations
said the patient died while
being delayed on the way
at 20 AR Khudengthabi
check post.
Such public
harassment in the form of
delay at the check post is
a regular affair and many
complaints and suggestions
have been lodged
against the check post with
no improvement till date.
It further alleged that
verifying proof of identification,
medical reference
and vehicle (ambulance)
documents should suffice
while transporting
patients instead of intense
checking of vehicle,
thereby adding tension to
the patient party in their
already worried state.
"We are well aware of
the good work done by Assam
Rifles in their effort to
control illegal trade, provide
security to civilians
and we are ready to cooperate
whenever the need
arises," said the release.
Expressing that it
would be better if Assam
Rifles understands public
sentiment, inculcate
among its personnel the
etiquette while dealing
with the public and ensure
that such incident do
not occur in future, they
stressed that patients travelling
on medical ground
should also be given special
consideration and normal
travellers be allowed
smooth passage without
undue delay.
