Imphal, July 31 2022:
Several CSOs based at Moreh have blamed the Assam Rifles for the death of one Khenkhup Lethil of Phaicham Veng Moreh.
According to a joint press release issued by HTC Moreh, KSO Moreh Block, Moreh Youth Club, KWU&HR Moreh and Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi, Moreh Block, Khenkhup was admitted in Moreh sub-divisional hospital on June 29 but he was referred to Imphal on the next day.
Accordingly, the patient was transported in a Moreh hospital ambulance but the patient died while being delayed on the way at the Khudengthabi check-post of 20 Assam Rifles, the CSOs alleged.
Public harassment in the form of delaying people at this check-post is a regular affair.
Complaints and suggestions have been given to the authority concerned time and again regarding the need to introduce a systematic checking at the Khudengthabi check-post, it said.
Humanity ought to prevail while dealing with people in distress such as patients in need of medical treatment, the CSO asserted.
They maintained that proof of identity, medical reference and vehicle documents should suffice to allow a patient party to proceed peacefully.
Intense checking of the vehicle (ambulance) created undue tension among the patient party and such conduct smacked of lack of compassion on the part of the AR personnel, they decried.
In case the vehicle (ambulance) was suspected or under surveillance, alternative arrangement should have been made to allow the patient to proceed without delay, they rued.
Patients travelling on medical ground should be given special consideration and they should not subjected to any undue delay, they added.
