Imphal, July 31 2022:
All Manipur VDF Welfare Association and Imphal West District VDF Welfare Association have jointly urged the government to table and pass their long overdue demand of increasing their honorariums in the ongoing state assembly session.
In separate releases, the associations lauded the state cabinet's decision on July 21 wherein some of their demands were approved.
However, their core demand to increase honorariums in view of the changing time was not considered, they contended.
Regarding the cabinet decision about increment of Rs 500 for VDF from January 2023, the associations urged to calculate the increment from the day of joining duty.
The releases reiterated to table the demand for increasing the honorariums of VDF and pass a bill by the 60 MLAs irrespective of ruling and opposition on Monday's assembly session.
Meanwhile, Bishnupur District Village Defence Force (VDF) Welfare Association expressed discontentment against state cabinet's decision to increase honorarium of VDF personnel by Rs 500 yearly from 2023, saying it is insufficient.
In a release, Association publicity secretary Naorem Rameshwar informed that considering the frequent hiking of price of essential commodities and high expenditure for education of their children the said increment is quite low.
The government should consider further increase of honorarium in accordance with requirement of present times, the secretary added.
Informing that the association met with Thanga MLA Tongbram Robindro on Saturday and will continue meeting other MLAs in the district to air their grievances, the secretary appealed the chief minister to give an opportunity to meet with the association and discuss the matter.
