Imphal East district police destroyed 247 acres of poppy plantation worth around Rs 12,35,00,000 and arrested nine people in January.
Speaking to media persons at his conference hall on Tuesday, SP M Pradip informed that a combined team of Imphal East district police and commando led by SDPO (Lamlai) Th Sudhir along with two women police constables, troops of 15 Assam Rifles led by captain Sobit and forest department officials destroyed 70 acres of illegal poppy plantation found growing along Aigejang hill range under Sagolmang PS on Monday.
Two poppy cultivators namely Seiminial Khongsai alias Hemin (32), son of Lamseh Khongsai and Ipiesap Samding (35), son of Haigen Samding both of Phanjang village, Peren district, Nagaland, but presently staying in Khamenlok village under Sagolmang PS, were arrested.
A regular FIR under ND&PS Act has been lodged at Sagolmang PS for further investigation, he added.
The SP further informed that during the month of January, illicit poppy plantations at Champhal hill range (12 Acres), Chansang hill range (15 acres), Kongba Maru hill range (10 acres), Maharani hill range (35 acres) and Aigijang hill range (70 acres), which fall under the jurisdiction of Sagolmang Police Station were destroyed by a combined team of Imphal East district police, forest Department and Assam Rifles.
Sagolmang police team also arrested six male cultivators and one female cultivator.
Altogether five FIRs under ND&PS Act have also been lodged for further Investigation.
Further, poppy plantations at K Henjang village (25 acres), Gamnom Village hill range (45 acres), Mlonghlam Village hill range (35 acres) which fall under the jurisdiction of Thoubal-Dam Police Station, Imphal East were destroyed and one female and one male cultivators arrested and lodged three FIRS at Thoubal-Dam PS, he added.
