Contraband goods, narcotics items recovered

Tengnoupal Battalion Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) foiled cross border smuggling near Kwatha village in Tengnoupal district on Tuesday and recovered illegal items worth Rs 9.61 lakh, informed a release by PRO IGAR(S) .
It said that during a border domination patrol, troops of Assam Rifles uncovered a large number of packages cached in the forest.
On thorough search of the packages, illegal goods including betel nuts, liquor, cigarettes and sandal wood items were recovered.
The smuggled items assessed to be worth Rs 9.61 lakh have been were handed over to Customs Department, Moreh, the PRO added.
In another release, the PRO informed that Phun-drei Battalion AR in joint operations with Manipur Police seized narcotics in Chandel and Kakching districts on Monday and Tuesday.
Based on specific input, troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police launched operations which led to seizure of narcotics items of Rs 27 lakh and Rs 1.4 crore in Kakching and Chandel district respectively.
The recovered narcotics items along with drug peddler have been handed over to Chakpikarong and Kakching Police Stations for further investigation, it added.
