JD-U confirms 30 for assembly polls

The Janata Dal-United (JD-U), which received major boost ahead of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election after some sitting as well as former MLAs and strong contenders joined the party, has on Tuesday announced the names of 30 candidates.
As per a joint statement issued by JD-U national general secretary Afaque Ahmed Khan and NEEC convener Senchumo Lotha, the Core Committee decided to allot party's symbol to W Rojit Singh for Kshetrigao assembly constituency, Sanglakpam Preshyojit Sharma (Thongju), Ksh Biren Singh (Lamlai), Khumukcham Joykisan (Thangmeiband), Kh Suresh Singh (Uripok), Dr Kh Loken Singh (Sagolband), Ngangbam Robert Singh (Singjamei), Brinda Devi (Yaiskul), Th Arunkumar Singh (Wangkhei), Khwairakpam Devendro Singh (Sekmai), Dr Kh Kanba Meitei (Lamsang), Nongmaithem Herojit Singh (Konthoujam), Th Swarn Kumar (Oinam), O Nabakishor Singh (Bishnupur), Sanjay Ahanthem Singh (Kumbi), K Jadu (Jadumani) Singh (Wangkhem), Th Jadumani Singh (Khangabok), Nabachandra Singh (Kakching), Elangbam Dwijamani Singh (Hiyanglam), Ashab Uddin (Jiribam), Ch Ajang Khongsai (Saikul ST), Alexander Pao (Karong ST), Soshim Gurung (Kangpokpi), L Johnny Gangmei (Saitu ST), Thangkhosei Guite (Thanlon ST), Genneikhup Vaiphei (Henglep ST), Lallian Mans Khaute (Churachandpur ST), Dr John Pulamte (Saikot), Hangkhanpau Taithul (Singhat) and Toijam Lokendro Singh (Khurai) .
Among others, former Manipur Police officer Thounaojam Brinda and businessman-turned-politician Arunkumar Thangjam joined the JD (U) on January 30 .
Mention may be made that soon after the BJP announced its list for 60 candidates, Arunkumar tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the saffron party, which he joined few months ago after quitting the Congress party.
Earlier, Khumukcham Joykisan Singh, the MLA from Thangmeiband constituency, joined the Janata Dal (United) days after he was suspended from the Congress party, with Jiribam MLA Ashab Uddin too following suit the next day.
