VC, MU inaugurates EM-RFID, ILMS-Koha, library portal

The Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University Professor N Lokendra Singh inaugurated EM-RFID (Electromagnetic - Radio Frequency Identification) and ILMS (Integrated Library Management System) � Koha and Library Portal today.
With the inauguration, Manipur University Library has now become the first fully automated library in Manipur state using EM-RFID and Koha.
The inauguration programme was attended by the various dignitaries of the university including Deans, Senior Professors, Registrar, Librarian and other officers and delegates from various media houses.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Professor N Lokendra Singh expressed that the implementation of RFID & ILMS is a cutting-edge technology for the automation of the library.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nihar K.Patra, Librarian, MU elaborated on the benefits of the implementation of RFID and ILMS such as self-issue and return of the books by the library users which will reduce manual work, easy to take the inventory through handle reader system, prevent misplacing and improper shelving of books.

Most importantly, it has a strong security system which is anti-theft detection and e-mail to the users on every issue/return of books, he added.
He further stated that implementing these technologies improves library workflow, attracts users, ultimately the library will support the academic and research activities of Manipur University and maintained that it is essential, especially during this pandemic situation as the library staff will have less direct human contact with the user.
Dr Patra also briefed about the library collections and services.
